Okay, a little more personal whining. Or lack thereof. I managed to get the hard drive up, and reinstalled the system software, and upgraded back to all the most current stuff. As of now, I am writing this post back on my Powerbook. And it seems stable. But my best guess is that the hard drive really needs a complete format-and-refresh, and/or the IDE controller is dying and thus the motherboard will need replacement soon. So, it is time to start investigating the next computer, though I may be able to eke out an existence for a few months as is, with regular backups.
You may express sympathy. Or more likely not, since I am whining about my problems with an expensive piece of technology that most people in the world can not afford, at all.
