I was reading Tom Friedman's article in todays NYTimes (No link in protest of their new "pay for read" policy) and he mentioned a company that makes a link of Islamic video games, which foresees a post-apocalyptic world where only Islam rules. I found the description hard to believe, so I googled their site and it is true.
It's the year 2114 and the Earth is finally united under the Banner of Islam. As a member of the Intergalactic Muslim Council (IGMC), your job is to help coordinate Dawa efforts on other planets. You couldn't be happier with your work, until the Flying Evil Robot Armada (FERM) attacks your home planet of Earth. It seems there was one disbeliever, known as Abu Lahab XVIII, left on Earth, and in his desperate attempt to deny the truth of Islam, he has constructed a whole army of robots to destroy the Earth and all of its Muslims.Wha??? Now, as a fan of Christian music, I do remember how weird some of my friends in high school found it that I listened to rock that talked about Jesus and God. But this seems to go beyond that into something else, something dark. It looks like the game - absent this introduction - is essentially a clone of Space Invaders. But then you really can not remove the propoganda when that is the selling point of the game now can you?
Someone, please tell me if I am overreacting.
