I have had my Garmin iQue 3600 for quite a while now, and enjoy always knowing EXACTLY where I am and how to get where I want to go. Being a man born without a sense of direction, my iQue ensures that I am never truly lost. However, I have already replaced the battery once on this device, and the replacement appears to be starting to fail as well. So, I am starting to think about a replacement. This has lead me to scour the web looking for the best GPS system for me.
I am still not sure which way I will go - barebones or high end - but the linked article appears to bring together the details from most of my research elsewhere on the net. But if you are looking for a GPS, be sure to stop in a local brick-and-mortar store as well. You never understand how small a "3.4 inch" screen is until you see it in Best Buy next to a 7 inch portable DVD player.
