Are You Ready for Daylight Savings Time?

I should probably first ask if you are ready for Daylight Savings Time which begins tomorrow. A new law passed by GWB and Congress in 2006 extends DST by several weeks in an attempt to conserve energy. It now begins at 2 AM on Sunday night, 3/11. So be sure to turn forward your clocks tonight.

This same change affects how your computer works, because all modern PCs and Macs have a built-in clock. Pretty much all of those clocks already had a built-in file for Daylight Savings Time, because it has worked the same way for a hundred years or so. This one change might leave your computer an hour behind if you have not downloaded the latest updates. Not a huge deal, unless you are trying to be somewhere on-time or trying to record television.

MacFixit.Com has a pretty comprehensive guide on upgrading Macs for DST. But basically, for ALL of your digital devices (PC, Mac, Palm, etc.) be sure to check for any updates today and upgrade your software. Pretty much everyone already has the newest firmware out there.
