Color me "interested but skeptical" when it comes to the Kindle. I must wonder whether it really is worth it when you can get an Asus Eee PC or OLPC for the same price. And when you can already read lots of books on your iPhone.

I used one of these back in 1996. My father had one for reading work documents. They were way ahead of their time then... and still are. People like books... I like books. It lets you see your progress, "feel" your reading. I thought they were ok then, and am still no plussed today.

I don't think the market for this (people who read) wants a device like this. I like books. I can drop them, spill coffee on them, whatever. I don't need batteries. I also don't have to spend $400 on top of the price of a book to read a book! I like the feel of books. My eyes do get tired of reading a screen, but not printed words on paper.
This isn't like music; on my iPod I want A LOT of music because it goes by fast. But a book I am going to take time to sit and read, and I can only read 1 at a time. I probably won't be reading it in "ideal" conditions.
So... I'm skeptical, or not plussed, as BowHunter said.
