If you are like me, then you really appreciate the great films that Pixar studios has made and continues to make. While I think some of the more recent films have not lived up to the brand (*cough* CARS *cough*), you can still be sure if you go to a Pixar movie that you are going to a quality film. It turns out, you also may be going to a film so chock-full of inside jokes that it is ready to explode! Now that's not fair. Cars lived up to the brand, just not a storyline or subject that you like.
Cars can talk and have their own world... why is that any worse than toys can talk and have their own world?
I think what you mean is... it didn't live up to Finding Nemo, The Incredibles or Monster's Inc. But IMHO it is as good or better than Toy Story 2 or A Bug's Life.
Cars was a good generic kids cartoon comedy. But it could have come out of ANY of the animation houses. The writing was fine, but generic and the designs were uninspired.
I am not saying it was not a fine movie. It is just not groundbreaking in the way most Pixar films have been. Bugs Life also had a generic story, but graphically pushed the envelope. And Toy Story 2 certainly had the story chops, even if it was not a move forward.
So I think my assessment was "fair." It certainly may not be the majority opinion, but I think it is "fair."
