Water banned from MLB dugouts

We have posted plenty of criticism here of the bottled water craze: it is too expensive, it creates waste, etc. But it seems strange to ban bottled water from baseball dugouts at Major League Baseball games!

White Sox clubhouse personnel said if players take bottled water onto the bench, all the bottled water will be removed from the clubhouse as punishment.

So remember, the biggest threat to baseball isn't steroids or HGH or amphetamines or runaway ticket prices or four-hour games.

It's water.
Hopefully, they allow the water if it is delivered in gatorade-logoed cups instead. {{Roll eyes.}

They probably can't get a bottled water company to pay the team to use their products in the dugout.
They used to just have a water fountain in the dugouts. I can remember frustrated players kicking the water cooler. Maybe they destroyed too many. ;-)

I find it hard to believe the company that owns Gatorade does not also own a bottled water company. Still, let the payers bring bottles of watcher wrapped in a team sticker or something to obscure where it came from.

I am reminded from the scene from IDIOCRACY where farmers were banned from using water because a Gatorade-type sports drink became the "official drink of the US government".

I'm sorry you wasted your time watching Idiocracy too. Seemed like it would have been a better movie than it was. :(

Wedge,

I enjoyed it enough. It was NOT as good as the fanboys said it was, but it had a point and some good moments. It'll be a good movie to catch on Saturday mornings when you want something silly, but not the kiddie cartoons. Not something I'll keep on DVD or get on HD.
