Edwards endorses Obama

It took long enough, but finally Edwards has jumped off the fence. Now we'll see Clinton's counter-move. She is unlikely to take what she will see as betrayal, sitting down.

I think Edwards was waiting for safe time to cut off any potential ties of his to the Clintons. Now that Obama has virtually sewn up the nomination, it is safe for Edwards to sever the ties. We all knew Edwards preferred Obama from watching how the debates unfolded.

I don't think it will happen, but it would be interesting to see Obama and Edwards run together on a ticket. Of course, maybe Edwards would want to be Attorney General.

the only thing newsy about this to me is how non-newsy it is. Everybody knew that Edwards favored Obama, but because he said what we all knew that makes it newsworthy. Common...

What is "newsy" is it allows the Edwards delegates to formally come out for Obama. Before this, the committed delegates had to vote for Edwards at the Convention. It widens Obama's lead and gets him closer to the magic number.
