How, when Congress's approval rating is at the lowest ebb in recorded history, did we wind up with both of the major Presidential Candidates coming out of Congress?
It seems like the fat man who says "Wow, fast food is making me fat. I'd better order another few Big Macs to get me on a diet."

I think we ended up with Obama becuase Hilary had such high negative ratings. There were over 50% of the electorate that won't vote for Hilary under almost any circumstances, so they all coalesced around one candidate which ended up being Barak Obama.
On the Republican side, I really think that we ended up with John McCain because in too many of our primaries independents and Democrats can vote in the primary. John McCain is the least objectionable Republican to most Democrats.
Even so. Why so many Senators??? It seems like a strange phenomenon when there were two good governors (decent approval ratings), a businessman, and others out there.
Or does America feel that while Congress is awful, these PARTICULAR congresspeople are brilliant? If so, why couldn't they get thru the legislation needed in their own chambers?
Both Obama and McCain have had the refrain of "change" or "maverick" indicating they aren't like the rest. Doesn't explain Hillary, but I think that is residual love for her being a woman, love for Bill, and lots of money having been spent.
The real sign of disapproval with Johnny Mac and Barry O is how popular Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul continue to be. Predict-O-Matic On: Some non-major candidate will get at least 10% of the vote in November, and it will be the balance of victory for one of the majors.
Glen, I think if a 3rd party candidate gets 10% of the vote in the fall it will hurt Obama and not McCain. Every 3rd party candidate out there now favors immediate recall of our troops from Iraq which is the opposite of John McCain. So those who do not want to pull out of Iraq right away have no choice but to vote for McCain or stay home. (other than writing in a candidate.)

I just sometimes get frustrated that we accept foolishness in ourselves and in our nation with so little notice of it. "Know thyself," Socrates said. We simply don't.
