Connecticut Post notices the joys of the Stratford Shoreline

Biking Solo by the Beach in Stratford (6/6/2009)Anyone who has been following Mod-Blog for a while is aware of how much I enjoy riding my bike along the Stratford Shoreline. My usual path begins at Marnicks Restaurant, goes out to Short Beach and then over to Long Beach. Each area has its own charms (and pricing to park, for out-of-towners like me) and it is a great ride of about 10 miles with constantly-changing scenery and personalities.

Now, the Connecticut Post has noticed this gem which is much closer than the "vacation beaches" up in Massachusetts or down in New Jersey. In hard economic times like these, you don't need to out of state to enjoy sand, sun, and the ocean. What other gems have Mod-Bloggers found closer to home than the typical vacation destinations?

To be fair, I shold disclose a running argument with Shadowmom over whether the Long Island Sound is indeed "The Ocean." I leave it to our readers to affirm *I* am right that it is.

Kettletown State Park in Southbury. Great hiking (short but with a great view), great camping, and pretty good fishing too.

Long Island Sound is "The Ocean", but not all ocean views are created equal. I'd rather sit by the crashing waves in NJ than the lack of waves and medical waste in Long Island Sound. :)

NJ has it's share of medical waste as well... and nuclear.

I like the CT shore better than the NJ shore, less needles (that happened once when we lived in NJ). The CT shore is indeed the ocean. Don't believe me? Come visit in WI where "the shore" means Lake Michigan.

BowHunter didn't realize you were born in New Jersey too! Great people come from New Jersey. :)

The Sound is definitely NOT the ocean. And as for NJ... It's nice, but MA has no needles or medical or industrial waste:)

P.S. Nick was born in MA, near Gloucester, Manchester-by-the-Sea and Rockport.
