Joe Mauer signed an eight year, $184 Million contract extension today with the Minnesota Twins. Mauer, one of the best players in baseball had one year left on his contract with the Twins. Actually, all of baseball can breath a sigh of relief. If a team like the Twins who just built a new ballpark, couldn't keep their best player and face of the franchise, then all of baseball would suffer as the Yankees, Red Sox, and perhaps Cubs would be the default destination for all great players once they reached free agency. No league can survive if all the talent is only in a couple of franchises.
