A hiker in Washington State used his cell phone to call for help after being trapped by an avalanche this week. With out his cell phone there is almost no chance that he would be alive today. It took the rescuers 4 hours to find him even being able to narrow down that search area by which cell tower the phone had connected to. Thankfully, the hiker had been able to somewhat describe where he was on his 911 call as well. This is a good reminder that those cell towers on top of mountains may take a little bit away from the beauty of the view, but they can also save lives. Between stories like this and of those who were able to call for help after 9/11 and the Haiti earthquake, it is a good reminder to always keep your cell phone with you.

This has worked in Haiti and other disasters, too.
