February 10, 2012... a day which will live in infamy?

I have enjoyed every iteration of Star Wars - even Episode 1 - but I am not sure if I am ready for a 3D Star Wars. But ready or not, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace is coming in 3D on February 10, 2012. Then again, maybe it will be the first film I see in 3D. We shall see.

Will they remake it without Jar Jar? ;)

I saw Avatar in 3D. It was, for the most part, a good experience, but dialog scenes were hard on the eyes.

I am not a fan of 3D, but regardless, this just looks like Lucas trying to squeeze more revenue out of fans. There is no pressing artistic need to re do these films in 3D, which was his argument when he changed the effects and added scenes to the old films.

Honestly, from my reading, I think he's essentially using it as a profitable way to perfect 2D-3D conversions. Once Lucasfilm has developed a series of algorithms to do it most automatically, they can make a fortune re-selling it to other movie-makers. Without guaranteed profits from the Star Wars movies, they'd be force to try and make some new filmmaker shoulder the cost of R&D.
