Playing Hardball with Teachers

I never doubt the good intentions of teachers - they have dedicated their lives to serving children and preparing the next generation. But in my experience, teachers are the last group willing to give concessions at the bargaining table. A school superintendent in Rhode Island has decided on a way to deal with a recalcitrant teacher's union. She fired every teacher and administrator at the school in question. Apparently, this is a politician who does not do things halfway. Especially when dealing with the worst school in the state.

Maine Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage; New Hampshire Next?

Maine is now the fifth state in which same-sex marriage is allowed. "Maine Gov. John Baldacci... who hadn't indicated how he would handle his state's bill, quickly signed it." New Hampshire's legislature is expected to send a bill to their governor on Wednesday legalizing same-sex marriage. This would solidify New England with only Rhode Island not allowing same-sex marriage. Rhode Island has a bill that has been introduced, but it is not expected to pass.

Senator Clinton wins 3, Obama takes only Vermont

Get ready for more rhetoric and "soul searching" in the Democratic Party, as the media dubs Senator Clinton the "Second Comeback Kid." She won narrow wins in Ohio, Texas, and Rhode Island, leaving Barack Obama only Rhode Island.. What does this change? Not much. The delegate gap is pretty much the same. But a brokered convention looks more and more likely, which may deny the Democrats a chance to begin their Fall campaign until it is over.
