Continuing the crisis in the world's faith in news organizations, the BBC had now admitted that their interview with a man claiming to be a representative of Dow Chemical was a hoax. The interviewee claimed to be a spokesman for the chemical giant and said that Dow took blame for a disaster in 1984 in Bhopal, India where poisonous gases were released. Over 3,500 died there because of the leak. Dow Chemical did not own the plant at the time, but has bought Union Carbide which did.
Between CBS's fake documents and the BBC's fake interviews, where is the incentive to believe mainstream journalists? This is a crisis of confidence which the media had better get on top of right away or the so-called "Year of the Blog" may be the last year where professional media is regarded as superior to citizen journalists.
