Those who have been reading Mod-Blog for a while know that I am a fan of the Mozilla FireFox browser and when I am surfing on a Windoze machine, it is just about the only one I will use. (I still stick mostly to Safari on my Macs.) Well, a little while ago, I invested in a new USB Key Drive called Stealth Surfer for surfing on my work machine. It stores all of my bookmarks, caches, cookies, etc. on the keydrive when I do any surfing on my work computer, and thus keeps the corporate network reasonably safe and keeps my e-mail private. (Fear not, usually I just just Drudge, /., and Mod-Blog.) The device has a customized version of Netscape on it, which does the trick of keeping files off of the work hard drive.
Well, now everyone can have a similar system with any keydrive, using a customized version of FireFox. Known as Portable Firefox this new version has been specifically optimized and hacked to keep all of FireFox's files on your keydrive (any key drive will do, buy one for nothing on a Christmas loss-leader!). Excellent for maintaining privacy and for making sure you can bring your bookmarks with you, not matter what computer you are on.
Only downside: it only works on Windoze PCs for now. I am hoping for a Mac version in due time.
