Sullivan has a piece up on the splintered sub-cultures that we are. I don't agree with all of his conclusions, especially about the President. But he does a service by putting into words how fractured our society is. We don't even have relationships with the people living on the same block, people from work stay there and mostly don't enter personal life, families are separated by more and more distance, etc. The divide in this country is much deeper than anything Red and Blue and I believe that it has as much to do with distance as it does politics. If our nation is one full of "the other" then how can we build a society?
