Charles Gibson Leaving ABC World News Tonight

Charles Gibson announced today that he is leaving ABC's World News Tonight at the end of the year. ABC Quickly announced that Diane Sawyer will become the new host in January. It will be interesting to see if this has any real impact on the other networks or if the Evening News is on its way out. It may be that people would prefer to watch something like Leno at 6pm instead of a national news program.

I honestly don't watch national news anymore, even though I am usually watching TV between 6 and 7. All of them seem so useless anymore.

Personally, I only watch TV news during historic events like 9/11 or presidential elections. Otherwise, I get my news from the internet, which is faster, more timely, and does not expose me to the banal banter of the anchors.

Charlie will be missed but I think Diane will be a great replacement.

Gibson is by far the best news broadcaster of the three, but he was only supposed to be temporary.

Does anyone know why or at least what ABC is saying the reason Charlie Gibson is leaving ABC?

Thanks,
