The U.S. Embassy in Jeddah, Saudia Arabia has been attacked by gunmen, who shortly thereafter were killed or captured. No Americans were hurt, killed, or taken as hostage. Several local staff were either killed or taken hostage, before being rescued by local Saudi forces. Overall, there appears to be Good News and Bad News.
The Good News:
- U.S. Security measures appear good enough to protect Americans at the embassy.
- Enemy forces were unable to stand against local Saudi forces for even a short time.
- Saudi Arabia is taking terrorism seriously. Finally!
- Saudi Arabians are willing to put their lives at risk to protect an ally, like the U.S. That was not the case a few months back.
The Bad News:
- Security measures were not enough to protect locals at the embassy. 5 died.
- The Enemy is still around in Saudi Arabia (not shocking, since there have been more amnesties than crackdowns) and they are well-armed.
- Al-Qaeda (unconfirmed, but assumed) is free enough outside of Iraq to strike us.
- This is an encouragement to terrorists around the globe, who have only had bad news since shortly before the U.S. election.
